Guardiola praises ‘magnificent’ Grealish following Carabao Cup victory

After an excellent performance from Grealish that helped City beat Chelsea, Guardiola had nothing but praise to say about Jack Grealish

As Gareth Southgate gears up to announce his 26-man World Cup squad,

Macnhester City

star Jack Grealish put in a performance against

Chelsea

that would convince any manager of bringing him to the World Cup.

Former Aston Villa Captain had 6 shots, 3 of which were on target and generally controlled the way City played last night, dominant in possession and hard-working without the ball. Pep Guardiola was all praise for Grealish following City’s 2-0 victory.

"Jack was magnificent,"

Guardiola told reporters after the victory.

"He played really well. I want Jack to have responsibility when we play with Kevin or Phil.

"When he gets the ball and attacks the backline, his intention is always to pass the ball.

"All the time we tell him to go to score a goal. He has the body language to pass the ball, but tonight his body language was 'I am going to score a goal'. He didn’t score, but one day he will do it. Jack is playing really good."

Kalvin Philips, who made a long-awaited return to football as a 50th minute sub, was also singing praises for Grealish:

"Jack has trained hard every single day. He's not had the luck with scoring and assists, but I think he brings a lot more to the team than just that.

"When you see him play and he plays like that, it's a joy to watch."
