Reece James hopes Milan injury "not be a bad one" ahead of World Cup

The England international sustained an injury in Chelsea's 2-0 victory over AC Milan on Tuesday. With Qatar World Cup coming in November, James hopes he be able to represent his country at the tournament.

Chelsea

beat 10-man

Milan

with two goals at San Siro on Tuesday to earn their first Champions League victory in Italy after 19 years, just a week after a 3-0 victory in the first leg at Stamford Bridge. However, Graham Potter, who now has won all of his four Chelsea matches, was forced to replace injured

Reece James

just after the hour mark.

Ahead of the Qatar World Cup, this is a vow for Gareth Southgate who has also

Trent Alexander-Arnold

sidelined after picking up a knock in Liverpool's defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.

However, the Chelsea right-back provided an injury update on social media. He said:

"Fingers crossed it’s not a bad one. Love for all the messages, I appreciate you all

."

Addressing James' injury after the match,

Graham Potter

said:

"We're hoping Reece will be OK. It will be 24, 48 hours to find out, so it's too early to give you anything more than that.

"He's so important for us. My job is to try and help him reach his potential and his potential is he could be a Chelsea legend. That's the level that he has, the potential that he has.

"But for that to happen he has to be part of a successful team and that's what we're working towards."
