Guimaraes confirmed Real Madrid were interested in signing him
The Brazilian was one of Los Blancos options to sign in the summer but he is happy after staying at Newcastle United.
Bruno Guimaraes has confirmed that Real Madrid were interested in signing him in the summer, but he is happy to be at Newcastle and believes that one of the best projects in the world is underway at St James' Park.
Guimaraes has performed very well for the team since his £35m move to Newcastle in January. Eddie Howe's side was in the relegation zone during that period, but at the end of the season, they managed to finish in the 11th place in the league and is in the 6th place in the new season. Since Guimaraes' arrival at St James' Park, Newcastle have managed to collect 48 points in 26 games, and only Manchester City (59), Arsenal (57), Tottenham (55) and Liverpool (54) have collected more points. Now the Brazilian claimed that he is happy that he did not go to the capital of Spain and stayed in the Premier League.
He told The Mirror:
"I never doubted the project. I believed it in the beginning. This will be one of the best projects in the world."
"I feel at home here. Real Madrid is the best team in the world. It is nice. It was just a conversation, but it is nothing."
Real Madrid sold Casemiro to Manchester United in the summer, but previously hired Aurélien Tchouaméni to replace him. Guimaraes was also another option of Los Blancos, but this transfer was not finalized in the summer.
