Guardiola confirmed: Dias missed Manchester derby due to injury

Guardiola will make three changes to his squad for the first clash with Erik ten Hag, while the Red Devils have only one change from the previous game.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Rodri will miss the match against Manchester United due to injury, while Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte will be on the bench for the Manchester derby.

Guardiola made three changes for the first Manchester derby of the season, with Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake in the starting line-up. John Stones is out again with a hamstring injury and Guardiola opted to drop Dias on the bench for Kyle Walker at right-back.

There were questions about Rodri's fitness, Pep confirmed that he will miss the game due to injury, and that Ilkay Gundogan will play behind Jack Grealish and Phil Foden in midfield, and Erling Haaland will be at the top of the attack.

He said:

"It is an injury. Yesterday in the training session he felt something. It was a little more than a niggle in his leg so we did not want to take the risk.

"It is an important role but a strength the biggest clubs have is that excuses don't exist. Nobody is second in the locker room."

Erik ten Hag has made a change to his team's lineup against Sheriff and Diogo Dalot has been included in the lineup instead of Cristiano Ronaldo. Casemiro is once again among the substitutes and Ten Hag has preferred to use Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen in the midfield.
