Carvalhal slams Cristiano Ronaldo critics with a "shame" message

The Portugal captain's performance during his side's 4-0 Nations League victory over the Czech Republic caused a lot of criticism forwarded to the Man United star.

’s injury. The Portuguese striker was injured after colliding with Czech Republic goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik during Portugal's Nations League match on Saturday. As a result of the incident, Cristiano Ronaldo's nose was broken and needed to be bandaged.

Despite that, the 37-year-old’s performance throughout the 90 minutes caused many people to ask the Portugal boss,

, to drop their captain as was unable to keep up the pace with the team and made basic errors. However, the former Swansea boss

Carlos Carvalhal

defended his compatriot ahead of Portugal's next game against Spain.

: "Ingratitude. One of the best players of all time, who has always played with pride for our national team, when perhaps for the first time, he needs support… many turn their backs and only criticize him. Maybe today they won't blush with shame... Strength Portugal, strength CR7."

Portugal’s Saturday's Nations League match was an important element of their preparations for the World Cup, which will be held in Qatar later this year. On Tuesday, Ronaldo and the rest of Portugal's A-listers will face off against Spain in the Nations League.
