Neuer and Goretzka not part of the Germany squad due to Covid-19

Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka will not be part of the Germany national team squad for their battles in the Nations League since he tested positive for Covid-19.

Germany

’s

Manuel Neuer

and

Leon Goretzka

will miss out on the battles of the Nations League as they are dealing with Covid-19. Following their positive results on Wednesday, the two

Bayern Munich

players have been in isolation and are no longer in the team hotel.

The German Football Association (DFB) stated:

"Due to a positive coronavirus test within one of the players' private circles, the medical team conducted a rapid antigen test on the whole nation team.

"All members of the coaching staff and the team are required to test negative before travelling. Confirmed contact of both players will be tested daily."

Germany will lock horns with Hungary on Friday and their next clash comes against England on Monday. Hansi Flick, the Germany coach, will most likely feel the pressure of not having two of his crucial players available.

Shot-stopper and captain Neuer’s replacement is Olivier Baumann from Hoffenheim. Moreover, Flick is also considering Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp for the role. Goretzka’s replacement, on the other hand, has not yet been confirmed by the DFB, but Flick has options like Joshua Kimmich, Ilkay Gundogan and Thomas Muller at his available.
