The England and Manchester City legend Jill Scott retires at age of 35

After 18 years of playing top-class football, the Euro 2022 winner who served Manchester City, Everton, Sunderland, and Aston Villa during his decorated career has decided to hang up her boots.

Being a part of the England squad that

won Euro 2022 last month

, Scott was capped 161 times for the Lionesses, scoring 27 goals.

is

England

's second most capped player of all time, 11 behind the record holder Fara Williams.

Scott said in the

Players' Tribune

:

"I may be saying my goodbyes to football, but we're going to make this a celebration. No sad faces!! We've had too much fun for any tears.

"Imagine, if you would have told me that I'd go on to play for England for 16 years?

"If you would have told me that I'd live to see 90,000 people packed into Wembley Stadium for a women's European final? And that I'd be playing in it? Impossible."

 

Beginning her career with Sunderland, Scott played for

Everton

before eventually joining Manchester City. Her decorated career includes the

Women's Super League

title and four women's FA Cups.

The 35-year-old played in 10 major tournaments, including two Olympics with Great Britain, and helped England win Euro 2022. To be officially honored and celebrated for her services,

Manchester City

invited Scott, who represented the Citizens more than 150 times, to return to City's Academy Stadium for a game this season.
