Erling Haaland: Pep Guardiola was the reason I joined Manchester City

Manchester City will put their faith in penalty box predator Haaland in the new campaign as they signed Erling Haaland for a reported £51 million deal from Dortmund this summer. The Norwegian wonderboy followed the footsteps of his father, Alfie, who also played for the Citizens.

Speaking to

FourFourTwo

, the 22-year-old striker revealed the main reason behind his transfer to

Manchester City

was the chance to work under

Pep Guardiola

, in addition of getting regular game time at the elite level.

Hailing Guardiola’s quality of coaching and style of play, Haaland said:

“Well, Pep didn’t have to sell the club to me, that’s for sure. He didn’t have to sell anything. For starters, he’s a special trainer and that was so important to me.

"We all know what he has done for his clubs, but also for players and for the game in general. That’s something I want to be part of. I think we can have a lot of fun together.”

Even though Haaland's Father, Alfie, played for City 20 years ago, the Norwegian insists their values are still very similar.

“It’s huge. The facilities around us, the staff, the people around the club, it’s a huge organisation. It’s a very professional club, it does everything in a good way to help the players which I really like.”

Erling Haaland

scored both of Man City’s goals in their Premier League opening 2-0 victory against

West Ham

. He provided a further assist in the Citizens' 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth and will be back in action when they face

Crystal Palace

on Saturday.
