Martial to miss Manchester United's league opener against Brighton

After returning from a disappointing loan spell at Sevilla, the Frenchman looked revitalized under new Man United boss Ten Hag during pre-season as a centre-forward. However, the Red Devils will be without his service for their Premier League opener as he's sidelined due to an injury.

According to the

Athletic

,

Anthony Martial

will miss the Red Devils Sunday opener against Brighton and Hove Albion as he has picked up a hamstring injury. United is optimistic that the problem is minor and the forward be able to play against Brentford and Liverpool in the next weeks.

With Cristiano Ronaldo, who is requesting a transfer away from

Manchester United

, being the only other recognized striker in the squad, Erik ten Hag will have a selection headache in his Premier League debut season’s opener. United is likely to go with Marcus Rashford as their centre-forward while Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo will be ten Hag's other options.

Jadon Sancho

has returned to training recovering from an illness that kept him out of Saturday's defeat to Atletico Madrid in Oslo.

Reports have been going around that

Cristiano Ronaldo

is keen on going out the exit door as he wants to play in the Champions League. He played in only one of the pre-season games for 45 minutes, the draw with Rayo Vallecano last weekend, where his manager blasted him for ‘not being fit enough to play’. However, with no club pursuing the Portugal icon, he likely spends the next season with the United.
