Women's Euro 2022 final smashes attendance record for Euro tournament

The Euro 2022 final has broken the attendance record for any European Championship match at either men's or women's tournament.

Sunday’s

Euro 2022

final between

England

and

Germany

has set a new attendance record after 87,192 spectators attended Wembley.

The previous record of 79,115 was for the men's final in 1964 between hosts Spain and the Soviet Union at the Santiago Bernabeu. The previous highest attendance record for a Women's Euros match in history was between England and Austria in the Euro 2022 group stage at Old Trafford with 68,871 watching.

Ahead of Sunday's final, UEFA announced more than twice as many fans have attended this year's Women's Euros than the previous tournament in 2017.

A total of 240,055 people attended matches at Euro 2017 in the Netherlands but a total of 487,683 people attended matches at this year’s Euro before the final. With the final attendance now included, a total of 574,000 people attended matches at Euro 2022 in England.

The world record attendance for a women's football match remains the figure of 91,648

when Barcelona beat Wolfsburg 5-1 at Camp Nou in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal in April 2022.
