Switzerland cancel training for 19 cases of sick people

Two days prior to the Euro 2022 showdown against Sweden in Women’s football, Switzerland have been struck by an illness in their camp.

Switzerland

cancelled their training session on Monday since 19 players and staff members got stomach problems.

The Swiss began their Euro 2022 campaign with a draw with

Portugal

on Saturday and will lock horns with Sweden on Wednesday in their second match of Group C.

However, they had to cancel their preparation for that game as their camp as players and staff members have become ill and had to self-isolate.

According to the Swiss Football Association, the players who got affected are Eseosa Aigbogun, Svenja Folmli, Seraina Friedli, Rahel Kiwic, Lara Marti, Sandrine Mauron, Julia Stierli and Riola Xhemaili.

The affected players and staff members will stay in isolation until their symptoms go away.

Swiss team doctor Martin Schober said:

"The cause of the gastrointestinal problems cannot be conclusively clarified from the current situation.

"The symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea are severe, but so far mostly brief. Some of them had only mild symptoms or no symptoms as early as this morning.

"If everyone is symptom-free tomorrow, we can travel to Sheffield as planned. Otherwise, further investigations are required."
