Attendance record broken in England vs Austria

England had their opener of the Euro 2022 against Austria at Old Trafford in front of 68.781, which is the highest attendance at a women’s European Championship game.

The game was the most attended one in the history of women’s European Championships. There were 68,781 in the stadium which is 30,000 more than the last record that was set in 2013, with 41,301 watching Germany vanquish Norway in the final of the Friends Arena in Stockholm.

The third highest number of people that attended the stadium when England was hosting the Euros in 2005, with 29,092 people at the Etihad Stadium as England vanquished Finland 3-2.

There is one more chance for the record to be broken again later at this tournament, with the stadium of Wembley having the capacity of 90,000, hosting the final of the competition on July 31.
