Barcelona Announces the Signing of Chelsea’s Christensen

After a long wait due to Barcelona’s struggle with their wage structure, the Blaugrana finally announces the signing of Andreas Christensen on a free transfer from Chelsea.

As Barca's president, Joan Laporta, confirmed on Saturday, Christensen's deal was officially completed and announced this week as the Dane becomes Barca's second signing of the transfer window after Kessie. The Centre-back has reportedly agreed on a four-year deal that includes a €500millon buy-out clause.

in the summer transfer window as they are eyeing Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Bernardo Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Marcos Alonso. They are also competing with Christensen’s former club, Chelsea, for Leeds United’s Raphinha. It’s been reported that Chelsea has reportedly agreed on a fee with Leeds, however, the transfer is yet to be done.

The Blaugrana are hoping to improve their previous year’s performance as they suffered an exit from the Champions League. They also were eliminated from the Europa League and ended their La Liga season sitting second, 13 points behind Real Madrid.

"Whether they have had their problems or not, it is still one of the biggest clubs for a player to get to."

Christensen joined the Premier League side as a youth player when departing Brondby in 2012, and played in 161 games for the Blues. He won the Europa League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup at Stamford Bridge.
