Newcastle United on the verge of signing Sven Botman

Newcastle United will sign Sven Botman, 90min understands.

The Magpies

have been fighting with Italian powerhouses

AC Milan

to sign the Lille defender, and they are almost done. Milan wanted to get both Botman and

Renato Sanches

from

Lille

as part of a double deal, but it looks like both players are getting away from them.

Paris Saint-Germain stole their deal for Sanches, and now Newcastle is going to beat them to Botman. Sources have told 90min that Newcastle have agreed to a deal worth a total of £40m, with an extra £5m depending on bonuses. Milan did not want to do this deal.

Botman, who is 22 and hasn't won a senior cap for the

Netherlands

yet but has been in many senior squads, was keeping his options open. Even in January, he didn't rule out the possibility of moving to Tyneside.

Botman's group had already come close to agreeing on personal terms, and now Newcastle hopes to seal the deal over the weekend. Eddie Howe's main goal for the summer was to find a new central defender. Now that they have one, they can focus on improving their forward options.
