Sergi Roberto finally signed a contract extension with Barcelona

Sergi Roberto, a versatile player for Barcelona, has signed a new one-year contract renewal at Camp Nou.

Roberto, a midfielder by profession but a frequent right-back, was in the penultimate month of his deal and had been on a rollercoaster of a trip for a renewal for the past year, with it seeming as if he might be allowed to depart for free on many occasions.

He has now put an end to the rumors by signing a new 12-month contract with

Barcelona

that would keep him there until 2023.

A €400 million release clause is included in Roberto's new deal.

Roberto joined the Barcelona academy in 2006 and has since played 316 times for the club, the great majority of which came following his switch to right-back in 2016.

In recent years, injuries have reduced his ability to play.

Roberto only made 15

LaLiga

games in the 2020/21 season due to a rash of muscular ailments, and his 2021/22 season was cut short in October due to the same issues.

Roberto is yet to make an appearance under new boss Xavi, who has shown an interest in working with the 30-year-old in the future season.
