Buffon reveals details on Real Madrid red card incident

The ex-Juve shot-stopper talked about the quarter-final of the Champions League against Real Madrid in 2018, when he got a red card.

Gianluigi Buffon

also admitted that someone else punched Michael Oliver, the referee, but he was the one who got the red card.

Juventus

pulled off a magnificent performance following their 3-0 loss at home in the first leg to take the lead at the Bernabeu in the second leg. However, everything took a turn when Madrid were awarded a penalty in the stoppage time.

Buffon received a red card for his aggressive reaction while Cristiano Ronaldo netted the penalty to help his side win in the semi-final.

Speaking to La Stampa, Buffon said of the incident:

“Madrid in 2018 is the match I am most proud of, even if I still don’t understand why the referee, Oliver, sent me off.

“I didn’t offend him and I think one of my team-mates gave him a punch or two in the ribs but it wasn’t me and I received the red!”

That was the last

Champions League

game Buffon played for Juve. He joined to

PSG

that summer but they were eliminated in the Round of 16 before he went back to Juve as a back-up. He then made a move to Parma.
