France’s Deschamps replaces Varane with Konate after injury

Raphael Varane sustained a hamstring injury during France’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Denmark and had to be replaced by Ibrahima Konate.

The

defender suffered a hamstring injury in France’s 2-1 Nations League loss at the hands of Denmark on Friday and had to be taken off the squad before their next three matches.

Kylian Mbappe

had to be withdrawn for his knee problem at the break, with assistant coach Guy Stephan revealed that the PSG star would be assessed.

Konate has been impressing this season at Liverpool following his move to the Premier League from RB Leipzig in 2021.

The 23-year-old featured in 29 games across all competitions for the Reds in the 2021-22 season, meeting the back of the net three times and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side keep 10 clean sheets.

Konate also was in the starting XI of the Champions League final against Real Madrid, with Liverpool losing 1-0.

France will lock horns with Croatia on Monday, before their game against Austria and return match against Croatia come along.
