Spurs' Emerson Royal clears out of an armed thievery without injury

According to accounts in Brazil, Tottenham defender Emerson Royal escaped injury when an armed attempted robbery turned into a shootout in which 29 rounds were fired.

Emerson was on vacation in Sao Paulo at the time of the event, which occurred in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to O Liberal, the

player was seen with an off-duty police officer after leaving a nightclub at 3 a.m. He was then approached by a guy who threatened him to hand over his possessions while holding him at gunpoint. 

When the officer saw the perpetrator, he pulled his firearm, sparking a gunfight that resulted in 29 rounds being fired.

The thief had to be transported to the hospital after one of the gunshots hit him in the back, according to the report.

The 23-year-old right-back was out with his family before the event, according to his father, who told Globo Esporte: "I was celebrating and on the way out, this whole affair happened, which was very bad. A horror scene indeed. I don't wish that on anyone."

The

club has yet to respond to the situation.
