Champions League final delayed with Liverpool fans stuck outside

The Champions League final has been delayed after fans had issues getting into the Stade de France stadium.

With much of the crowd still outside as 8 pm BST kick-off time loomed, UEFA announced that the kick-off of the

Champions League

final between

Liverpool

and

Real Madrid

has been delayed by 15 minutes, with the delay later extended to 30 minutes.

The official reason was given as "fans arriving late" despite the fact that the fans were already there and were having problems getting in.

“Supporters attempted to penetrate the stadium. They forced their way through the first filter. The screening at the Stade de France is watertight,”

French police said in a statement.

UEFA has blamed the delay on the "fans arriving late" at the Stade de France but this version of events has been disputed by journalists and reporters inside the stadium in Paris.

Video clips on social media showed riot police chasing fans outside the stadium as they ran away and others being escorted away. Witnesses claim dozens of supporters forced their way into the stadium and others outside, including children, were being tear-gassed by riot police.
