Hoffenheim part ways with Sebastian Hoeness after 9 winless games
Sebastian Hoeness was dismissed by Hoffenheim after a nine-game losing streak at the end of the Bundesliga season.
The decision follows Hoffenheim's disastrous conclusion this season in Germany's top-flight, in which they went winless in nine games.
Hoffenheim won just three of the last 27 points available, their latest victory coming on March 6 in Cologne.
Hoffenheim finished the season in the ninth position, six points behind Cologne in seventh – the
Bundesliga's Europa Conference League qualifying berth - as a result of that run.
Hoeness was recruited before the 2020-21 season after leading Bayern Munich's reserves to the 3. Liga championship. In his first season at the helm of Hoffenheim, they finished 11th and reached the
Europa Leagueround of 32.
Hoffenheim had been strongly in contention for
Champions Leaguequalification earlier this season, but their decline and inability to qualify for Europe at all led to chairman Dietmar Hopp getting impatient, according to reports.
The 40-year-old Hoeness said: "In the past few weeks we have carried out an intensive analysis of our joint work and have not found any consensus on the future direction. Therefore, from my point of view, an amicable separation is logical."
