Giroud: Milan are close to the Scudetto, we can't deny it

Olivier Giroud claims Serie A leaders Milan are completely focused on winning the championship for the first time in over a decade.

Milan

's squad is entirely focused on the Serie A run-in, according to

Olivier Giroud

, as the Rossoneri want to create "something unique" by winning their first Scudetto since 2011.

Milan came from behind to beat

Lazio

2-1 in their most recent match, and they now lead Serie A by two points after title rivals Inter lost their game in hand at Bologna on Wednesday. Stefano Pioli's side is unbeaten in 12 Serie A matches heading into Sunday's battle with

Fiorentina

, but they face top-half opponents in each of their final four games.

Giroud, whose lone league title is a surprise

Ligue 1

triumph with Montpellier in 2011-12, believes the Rossoneri are looking forward to being part of an exciting fight for the Scudetto and insists that winning the Scudetto would be a "special" achievement for Pioli's side.

"As we go closer to the finish of the season, it's only natural that there will be more pressure," Giroud said to the club's media outlets. "However, the entire group, including the entire squad, is completely focused on the next game's aim, which is to win. To win the Scudetto, every player must dream, think, eat, and breathe; we're so close, and everyone wants it, that we can't deny it."

"I'm hoping for a fantastic final run-in for our supporters, and I'm hoping for a once-in-a-lifetime event for us all." In Milan's comeback win over Lazio, Giroud scored his ninth goal of the Serie A season, giving him his greatest goalscoring league season since he scored 12 goals for Arsenal in the Premier League in 2016-17.

France's 2018 World Cup

winner has also scored more goals for Milan against Lazio than any other opponent (three in two outings) and stated the dramatic nature of their win made it "even greater." He went on to say, "We showed wonderful team spirit, we never gave up, and we always thought we could win the game."

"It's even better to win like this; it's an incredible feeling to triumph in front of 10,000 Milan fans at the Stadio Olimpico. We performed well and were confident in our victory till the very end."

Milan are seeking to win the Serie A title after a strong defensive run. Only Liverpool (six) has conceded fewer goals in the top five European leagues since the start of 2022 than Pioli's men have in their 15 league outings.
