Milan’s Kessie to join Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer

The midfielder plans to join the Blaugrana when he hits free agency in the summer as he agreed a four-year deal with the La Liga giants.

Franck Kessie

, whose deal with

Milan

is due to expire when the season ends, had already reached an agreement with

Barcelona

last week. The Ivorian has penned a contract with Xavi’s side that will keep him until 2026, with an annual salary of €6.5m (£5.4m), not including bonuses.

He made a move to Milan from

Atalanta

in 2017 on a loan contract and has featured in 200 matches for the Serie A leaders. He has now finished his medical and Barcelona will announce him as their player imminently.

The Blaugrana are trying to get other targets in the summer and Raphinha, the Leeds winger, is on their list. However, they have yet to discuss the Premier League side about the move, although they have talked with his agent Deco.

The ex-Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder shares a good relationship with Joan Laporta. Raphinha, who did not play for Leeds in their victory over Wolves on Friday due to a positive Covid-19 test, is delighted to be moving to Barcelona in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano, the transfer journalist, confirmed it on his

Twitter

that Kessie will pen for the Catalans in the summer when his deal expires

Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter that Kessie will sign for Barcelona in the summer after his contract in Milan expires.

He said:

“Here we go. After verbal agreement reached days ago, Franck Kessie has signed as new Barcelona player until June 2026 – it’s gonna be four year deal, he joins as free agent from AC Milan.

“Kessie will receive €6.5m net salary plus add-ons. Medical already completed.”
