Everton in talks with Cannavaro for the managerial job

Everton have talked with Fabio Cannavaro for the managerial role at the club.

Everton

are on the lookout for a new manager after they sacked

Rafa Benitez

last weekend. They are currently at risk of relegation, sitting 16th in the table and six points above the drop zone.

As per reports from

90min

, Toffees caretaker boss

Duncan Ferguson

is keen on getting considered for the role on a permanent basis, and his squad are pushing for that to happen. However, Everton are eyeing Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Roberto Martinez and Graham Potter.

The Telegraph

report that

Fabio Cannavaro

has been spoken to for the role at Goodison Park.

The 2006 Ballon d’Or winner has been a manager in Asia since 2014, although he departed his recent post at Guangzhou Evergrande in September.

He is keen on coaching in the

Premier League

and can speak fluent English, notwithstanding never having featured on these shores. He attracted the attention of Everton’s top brass on Wednesday during the initial talks, with Farhad Moshiri, the majority shareholder, and Bill Kenwright, the chairman, are going through their list of candidates.

Cannavaro admitted that he had been following Manchester City, Chelsea, and Tottenham’s training sessions, and he wants to continue his role in Europe.

He rejected the offer to succeed Paulo Sousa as Poland's boss before the World Cup play-offs in March.
