Everton closing up on a deal for Rangers’ Patterson

Everton are on the verge of closing up a £16m deal with Rangers over the singing of right-back Nathan Patterson.

Rangers

had rejected two bids for

Nathan Patterson

in the summer, revealing that they did not meet his demanding price.

Everton

, however, decided to make yet another move to sign the 20-year-old in January which is going to see Rangers earn a club record fee of £12m for the academy graduate with another £4m in add-ons.

The youngster has been in the starting XI twice in six games in the Scottish Premiership this season, with James Tavernier being the first-choice right-back.

Last June, he had his Scotland debut before meeting the back of the net for the first time for his national team during a clash against

Moldova

in November.

After Rafa Benitez signed another defender, Vitaliy Mykolenko, from Dynamo Kiev, Everton’s move for the Rangers’ player was revealed.

When quizzed about Everton's initial interest in October, Patterson said:

"Yes, that was obviously nice to see that teams are interested but I am only interested in playing football.

"That's the stuff that comes with it and I am not really aware of anything that happens, I just go on the pitch and do my thing and let the outside talk.

"You need to keep your feet grounded and just focus on your football and that's what I have been doing.

"In football, you have media everywhere now, and you have everyone's opinions.

"Sometimes you just need to block that out and focus on yourself, surround yourself with the right people and I feel as if I have done that. I have a good group of friends, good team-mates and family also who keep pushing me on to do well."
