Spurs unwilling to sign Trippier in January amid Newcastle's interest
Tottenham's attitude on whether or not to hijack Newcastle's potential move of Kieran Trippier is obvious. Atletico Madrid is allegedly ready to negotiate a £17 million deal.
Newcastle are eager to reinforce their squad in the January transfer window, with relegation a real possibility.
The Magpies have only won once in the current
Premier Leagueseason and are now in the bottom three; however,
Eddie Howe
will be given the green light to purchase.
With Newcastle's financial assistance from Saudi Arabia, the former Bournemouth manager has many targets in mind, with bolstering the defense being his priority.
The first acquisition might be Atletico Madrid midfielder Kieran Trippier, who wants to return to England after conquering La Liga last season.
Manchester United were keen in the summer but have since dropped their desire, while Tottenham Hotspur have also been cited as a potential opponent to Newcastle's ambitions.
However, according to
ESPN, the Lilywhites are unwilling to make a January move for their former player.
Trippier spent four years in north London before moving to Roji Blancos for £20 million in 2019.
Antonio Conte,
on the other hand, wants to strengthen his defense as well, with a center-back being a top priority.
Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan is at the top of his list of priorities after winning
Serie Awith him at the San Siro last year.
As a result, Newcastle is in the hunt for Trippier, who may be purchased for £17 million (€20 million) as Atletico Madrid looks to offload players.
After 28 games and six assists, the England international was a significant member of Diego Simeone's league-winning squad last season.
While the 31-year-old stays in the squad, his attacking contribution has been lacking in 14
La Ligagames, with no goals or assists.
Nonetheless, Newcastle regard Trippier as a morale-boosting addition who can help them get back into the top flight.
Several other players, notably Burnley ace James Tarkowski, who is out of contract at the end of the season, have been linked with a move to St James Park.
Jesse Lingard, a former Manchester United player, is also on Howe's wishlist, as is Odion Ighalo.
