Benjamin Mendy charged with seven counts of rape

The French defender is facing new charges in the rape case.

Manchester City

defender

Benjamin Mendy

has been charged with seven counts of rape.

Mendy, 27, who had previously been charged with several counts of sexual offences, was charged with eight counts of rape in court last week, but was not notified due to reporting restrictions. On Wednesday, the restrictions were lifted and Mendy appeared in Chester Crown Court to hear his new charges. The allegations were made by a new complainant and appear to have taken place in July this year.

Mendy has now been accused of 8 offenses against 5 women, including 7 rapes against 4 women. The previous charges were three counts of rape that occurred in October 2020, July 2021, and August 2021. He appeared in court alongside co-accused Luis Saha Matturie, who is also accused of raping several young women.

The French national team defender has been in custody since his arrest on August 26.
