Steve Bruce as a candidate for United job

The Red Devils hero, who featured for the Premier League side for nine years, would be delighted to stabilize the club.

As per reports from

The Athletic

, former

Newcastle United

manager is eager to be

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

’s replacement on a temporary basis.

Steve Bruce

contributed to three Premier League title wins as well as three FA Cups with

Manchester United

under the reign of Alex Ferguson and has managed 1,000 matches since. Now, he is prepared to take up a new challenge at the age of 60.

"

Former United captain Steve Bruce, recently let go by Newcastle, would be very keen on the role, and believes he could help stabilize the dressing room,"

the report claims.

Solskjaer was dismissed this weekend following their disappointing defeat at the hands of Watford, which was their fifth defeat in their last seven matches in the England top flight.

The Red Devils are considering managers like Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane for the job.

Michael Carrick is the interim manager of the club until a permanent replacement is appointed.

Bruce, however, helped Newcastle avoid two relegations when he was in charge, before being dismissed after the new owners took over.

"

I think this might be my last job,"

Bruce told the Telegraph after that stint had ended.

"It has been very, very tough.

"To never really be wanted, to read people constantly saying I would fail, that I was useless, a fat waste of space, a stupid, tactically inept cabbage-head."

United will go against

Villarreal

in the Champions League next.
