Haller made history scoring four goals in Ajax’s victory over Sporting

Ajax sent a statement out to the rest of Group C as they run riot in Lisbon to move to the top of the group.

Haller got Ajax on their way inside two minutes when Antony's shot hit the post, only for the ball to bounce into Haller's path as he headed home. He converted Antony's cross seven minutes later.

Sporting pulled one back with Paulinho’s 33th-minute goal before Berghuis making it 3-1 six minutes later. Another two second-half goals from Haller secured

Ajax a 5-1 victory over Liga NOS champions

.

By scoring four goals in his Champions League debut,

Haller emulated a feat only previously achieved by Marco van Basten

, when the Dutch icon scored four goals when Milan defeated Gothenburg 4-0 at San Siro in the inaugural Champions League season of 1992-93.

After scoring his first goal with his head and the second with his right foot, Haller completed a perfect hat-trick in the 63rd minute when he converted from Antony's delivery.

In the other game of Group C of the Champions League,

Dortmund bagged a 2-1 victory over Besiktas

to put Sporting at the bottom of the group.

Dortmund opened the scoring through Bellingham inside 20 minutes, with the midfielder slotting through Destanoglu's legs from a tight angle before assisting Haaland up for a tap-in on the stroke of half-time. Besiktas pulled one back in the 94th-minute as Pjanic delivered a terrific free-kick into the box and Montero attacks it with conviction, thumping a header beyond Kobel.
