‘Garcia is in perfect condition’ - Luis Enrique defends Barcelona’s CB
Spain manager Luis Enrique has backed Barcelona center-back, Eric Garcia, following the criticism he received after the 2-1 defeat to Sweden.
Garcia
struggled in Stockholm during their World Cup qualifier against
Sweden
, with
Alexander Isak
getting away from him to score Sweden's opening goal and his poor positioning for
Viktor Claesson
's winner.
However,
Luis Enrique
is willing to trust him again and made it clear in the press conference prior to the match against
Georgia
that Garcia is a key in La Roja's aspirations in the next World Cup in Qatar 2022.
“The season has started very well for him and he's in perfect condition and I see him well.
“It's true Eric suffered in the transitions against Sweden, but it also happened to Laporte. I am happy with Eric."
Spain head into Sunday’s match in second place in Group B, two points behind leaders Sweden but having played a game more than Janne Andersson’s side.
The 20-year-old will be in line for Spain’s tomorrow's home clash with Georgia, but Gerard Moreno misses out through injury.
