Man City's Mendy to remain in custody after his bail request rejected

After a bail request was rejected, Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy will stay in jail until a possible sexual assault case.

The 27-year-old has been held at HMP Altcourse in Merseyside since last Friday when he was accused with four charges of rape and one act of sexual assault before

Chester Magistrates' Courthouse. 

On Wednesday, another bail petition was filed at Chester Crown Court in a closed proceeding that lasted around 50 minutes. 

Mendy, a member of the French national team, did not appear in the trial. 

According to a court spokesperson, the application was denied by the Honorary Recorder of Chester Judge

Mendy is accused of assaulting

three women

, one of whom is under the age of 18, at his residence on Withinlee Road in Prestbury, Cheshire. 

Three of the molestations are said to have occurred in October 2020, and he is suspected of sexually assaulting a lady in January of this year. 

He's also accused of raping a woman earlier this month. 

The left-back, who has been banned by the club awaiting an inquiry, is scheduled to stand in court on September 10 at Chester Crown Court. 

As part of the police inquiry into the accusations, a second man, 40, was detained on suspicion of rape but was granted bail, according to Cheshire Constabulary.
