Newcastle makes Willock’s transfer permanent for £25m

Willock joined the Magpies in January on loan until the end of the season after struggling to earn regular game time under Mikel Arteta.

After a brilliant display at Newcastle, where he scored eight goals in 14 appearances, Magpies done everything to convince the Gunners to extend Willock’s stay at Tyneside.

According to

Sky Sports

, Newcastle have agreed on a fee in the region of £25m with Arsenal for midfielder Joe Willock.

Although the personal terms are yet to be agreed, Newcastle are eager to complete the deal in time to have Willock available for their opening game of the season against

West Ham on Sunday

.

Newcastle boss Steve Bruce openly discussed his wish of maintaining the 21-year-old’s services for the upcoming Premier League season.

He told an interview last month

“I couldn’t be more pleased for him. He’s done so well.

“As I’ve said, it’s really Arsenal’s decision, and until Arsenal make a decision – a bit like all the big clubs, they have a look over pre-season – we’ll keep monitoring and badgering away. We’d love to do something but it’s still Arsenal’s call.”

"We’ll try our utmost to keep him but we must respect that he’s Arsenal’s player."

Willock himself was also interested in staying with the Magpies,

he told BBC Sport in May

"I'm not sure. I need to have a conversation and see what the best move for me is. I have made friends for life and made a really big connection with the fans.”
