Postecoglou is optimistic despite Celtic’s Champions League relegation

After a 2-1 extra-time defeat by Midtjylland in Denmark, the Hoops dropped into the Europa League qualifiers.

Celts started the battle

on the right foot, as they met the back of the net early doors, courtesy of Callum McGregor’s strike. They have had the lead in the second tie as they finished the first leg with a 1-1 result.

However, after James Forrest missed a sitter, Awel Mabil scored the equalizer and leveled the game before Midtjylland secured their win through Raphael Onyedika Nwadike’s extra-time goal.

However, Celtic’s boss,

Postecoglou

. believes extra help is already on its way ahead of next Thursday's trip and even Saturday's cinch Premiership opener against Hearts.

"We are going to get some reinforcements," he said. "Carl Starfelt is going to come in, Nir Bitton will be available, Kyogo Furuhashi will come in. Already we will be stronger in terms of depth and quality.”

Two of

Postecoglou

's summer signings were in quarantine and a jaded-looking Celtic side offered no response after the Danes went ahead four minutes into extra-time.

"Guys like James Forrest, that was his first full run and he will be better for it.

"I do believe we will get stronger and I do believe we will be in much better shape come the next European tie.

"More importantly, I want to make sure we start the league well on Saturday and that's our focus right now."

Celtic will lock horns with Czech side Jablonec in Europa League qualifying.
