Everton sign Asmir Begovic from Bournemouth

Everton have completed the signing of Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a one-year deal with an option of a further year.

After signing former

Crystal Palace

winger

Andros Townsend

on a free transfer, The Toffees brought in the experienced goalkeeper to provide back-up for

Jordan Pickford

The former

Stoke

and

Chelsea

stopper has signed a 12-month contract, with the option to extend it for another year.

"When I first heard of the possibility of joining Everton, I was really excited,"

"Opportunities like this don't come around every day so I'm honored and pleased to be here.

"The ambition is to get this club to where it belongs. We want to be challenging for those European spots, challenging for trophies and being in that upper echelon of the league."

Begovic will provide new Everton boss Rafael Benitez with backup for England number one Jordan Pickford.

"Jordan (Pickford) is a world-class goalkeeper,"

Begovic added

. "I think the goalkeeping group here is fantastic.

"We're going to push each other every single day and set those standards in training.

"I'm definitely here to compete (for a place) and to try to help this team in any way I can."

The former Stoke and Chelsea keeper has made 252 appearances in the Premier League. He signed for Bournemouth for £10m in 2017 and had loan spells at

FK Qarabag

and

AC Milan

before returning to the Championship side last season.
