Matias Almeyda's translator sent off in match against Colorado Rapids

Agustin Zalazar was given a red card after his remonstration with the referee on the touchline.

San Jose Earthquakes

were held to a 1-1 draw in their MLS clash against

Colorado Rapids

on Sunday. Javier Eduardo Lopez opened the scoring for the San Jose side in the 11th minute, but his goal was responded by Cole Bassett’s equalizer seven minutes before the hour-mark. The Earthquakes’ boss Matias Almeyda was frustrated by the lack of clear communication with his players as his translator was sent to the stands midway through the second half.

Almeyda complained to the match referee about a foul in the 70th minute with the help of his translator. The Argentinian coach received a yellow card for his remonstration, while he saw his translator

Agustin Zalazar

receiving a red card for being too forceful with his protests.

While Colorado are chasing a spot in the playoffs, San Jose are fighting to avoid finishing at the bottom of the Western Conference’s standings. Almeyda’s side, who have managed to win only three of their opening 13 MLS matches, will face

Sporting Kansas City

in their next league game on Thursday.
