The two Premier League clubs were eyeing the midfielder before that move, but he was determined to stay in Italy.
Inter seem reluctant to part ways with the talisman player, especially with him being mentioned as a potential future caption of the team several times when shot-stopper Samir Handanovic calls it quits.
