Bayern’s on-loan Richards will miss Hoffenheim’s final game

The American centre-back joined Hoffenheim on loan from Bayern Munich on the final day of the January transfer window and went on to have an impressive short spell at Hoffenheim, providing two assists in his 14 Bundesliga appearances.

However, missing Hoffenheim’s last two fixtures with lingering thigh problems, TSG head-coach Sebastian Hoeneß confirmed in his Thursday press conference that the 21-year-old has headed back to Bayern to continue his recovery.

It is unlikely that Chris Richards will have a future as a centre-back at Bayern, especially with the incomings of Dayot Upamecano and Omar Richards.

However, the American can also play at right-back, a position new trainer Julian Nagelsmann will want extra options for.

"He fulfilled exactly the need we were looking for," Richards' former FC Bayern II trainer noted with a tone of finality, "We knew what he could do. Now he heads back to Bayern."
