Emerson Royal: I don’t think about Barcelona or anywhere else

The Brazilian full-back is co-owned by Barcelona and Real Betis but says he is not paying attention to transfer rumors.

Emerson Royal

has established himself as a key player for

Real Betis

in their current La Liga campaign. The Brazilian full-back has featured in 24 league matches for Betis as they sit sixth in La Liga with 45 points from their 28 matches. The 22-year-old left

Atletico Mineiro

with a

reported

€12.7m deal in 2019, but his future at Betis is unclear as he is co-owned by

Barcelona

and Betis. The player’s fee has been paid by both clubs and a clause in his contract stipulates that the Catalans have an option to sign him permanently in the summer. However, according to

Goal.com

, the Blaugrana are obliged to pay Betis €9m to ensure that the deal becomes permanent. Barcelona are keen to add Royal to their ranks as they want more competition in their full-back position. Despite the complex situation surrounding his contract, the young defender says he is fully committed to Betis and their upcoming matches.

The Brazilian full-back told

Diario De Sevilla

: “I don’t think about Barcelona or anyone else, only Betis."

“We have ten important games and we want to get the maximum of them out if possible. When the season is over, then I will start to think about my future.

“Europe will be a huge boost of course. For me and for all the players that are here. We deserve to put Betis where it needs to be because it is a spectacular club and it has to always be fighting for important things.”

Betis will play their next La Liga match against

Elche

on April 4.
