Maldini: Zlatan is a motivator but the club is above any player

Milan legend believes the team will be fine even if the Swedish star part ways with the club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

started his second spell at

AC Milan

in December 2019 when he left

LA Galaxy

to join the Rossoneri.

The Swedish forward has been a great help to the team since he started at San Siro and has managed to score 14 goals in Serie A in 2020-21 to help the team climb to second in the table.

Ibrahimovic’s contract with Milan expires at the end of the season and there are already many rumors and speculations regarding his future at the club.

Some believe that his departure will have a negative effect on the team, however, Milan legend

Paolo Maldini

believes the team will be just fine even if the Swedish star decides to continue his career somewhere else.

In an interview with

So Foot

, Maldini said:

"The truth is, the club is above any player because the players pass through, and the club remains.

"There are players who leave a different mark than others, and Zlatan is one of them.

"He's a motivator. He's a character that can seem complicated to deal with, but for those who manage to draw all of his qualities, he's a huge resource.

"The club is above any player, and that goes for everyone, because it comes from our way of being leaders in our field."
