Ugarkovic: “That’s why Deans got the job, to make those decisions”

Craig Deans, Newcastle Jets’ coach, is going to have plenty of options when he decides to pick his starting XI this weekend.

Newcastle Jets

are set to face

Melbourne Victory

on Sunday.

As Jason Hoffman and Ramy Najjarine fully recovered from injuries,

Craig Deans

will have many options to pick from.

Matt Millar is also out of hotel quarantine with many training sessions to his name. The

A-League

transfer window has started as well, with a lot of things to consider.

As the transfer is open, players like Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, Liridon Krasniqi, and Syahrian Abimanyu are up for recruitment, too.

The last two are going to move to the Jets after exiting hotel quarantine and Stamatelopoulos has already been practicing for a few weeks.

Steven Ugarkovic

considers it a blessing that many are racing for a place in the team.

That’s why he got the job, to make those decisions,

” Ugarkovic said about Deans’ headache in picking the squad.

He will put the best team out there and the boys have to react from that and whether they’re playing or not, they have to perform.

“Just because you’re not in the team doesn’t mean you pull up a handbrake and sulk about it.

“you’ve got to put your head down and get back in the team. And it’s good to have those selection problems because they’re all quality players and we’ve got quality players on the bench.

“Depth is good, so it’s a good problem to have.”

The 26-year-old has had his A-League start for his side in 2016 and featured in 120 league games. This weekend, however, he has made his 100th consecutive game for the Jets.

When quizzed about his secret, he added: “

Just getting on the field each week. Doing the little things right through the week, so I’m fit and ready to go.

“These last six months have been hard with the body having little problems (but) doing the right things off the field to be prepared and being able to put myself in a position to play each (helps).”
