Wolves Propose Premier League VAR Shake-Up

Maguire Backs Controversial Move to Scrap VAR for Subjective Calls

Wolves have proposed to eliminate VAR from the upcoming season, pending a Premier League club vote scheduled for their summer general meeting. To pass, the motion requires approval from at least 13 other clubs. The stance of

Manchester United

remains uncertain, although Harry Maguire supports the removal of VAR for subjective decisions like fouls and red cards, advocating instead for its retention solely for factual rulings such as offsides.

Maguire, who has played 22 Premier League games for United this season, expressed his views to The Sun, suggesting that while VAR has its supporters, many believe it needs significant improvement. He welcomes the introduction of automated offsides in the next season, expecting it to hasten decision-making.

Personally, Maguire prefers to retain VAR for offsides but eliminate it for subjective calls, emphasizing the frustration of losing games due to incorrect offside decisions. He believes this change will reduce controversies over red cards and penalties, acknowledging the ongoing debate about the accuracy of such calls.

United's focus now turns to their final Premier League match against Brighton, followed by the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.
