Connor Shields rescues Doonhamers

Connor Shields wrote a goal and two assists to his name in a 3-0 win against Queen’s Park to send Queen of the South into the third round of the Scottish Cup.

Willie Gibson

fired the opener in the first-half injury time with an assist from

Shields

.

Adrian Fitzpatrick

converted Shields’ crossing to double the lead midway through the second half.

Shields finished off the game in the 82nd minute with a stylish shot with the outside of his boot to secure the game for Doonhamers.

The goal was his fifth in four matches.

The game took place on a frosty pitch after seven of Saturday’s cup ties were called off, including Dunfermline’s trip to Morton and the first-round game between Camelon and Brora Rangers, the winners of whom are due to face Hearts.

Pitch checks are scheduled for at least seven other second-round games on Saturday.
