Euro 2020: Netherlands vs. Austria match preview- team news, lineups

Netherlands take on Austria in Group C of Euro 2020 on Thursday. Follow along for Netherlands vs. Austria live stream online, prediction, lineups preview and score updates of the Euro 2020.

After scoring a late winner, Netherlands were lucky to go home with all three points in their opening match against

Ukraine

. The win in their first game was a new start on their return to international football after missing out on the World Cup in 2018.

Netherlands will now aim to build on the win when they welcome early table-toppers Austria to Amsterdam. With the match set to be played in front of Dutch fans, Frank De Boer's squad hopes to record a more straightforward win to set them on top of the Group C table as they look to win the group.

After their 3-1 win over

North Macedonia

in the opening round, Austria have set the pace early in this group and are heading into round two top of the table.

The win, which was their first-ever win at a major tournament since 1990 ensured that they enter the second round ahead of the Netherlands, based on goal difference.

Franco Foda’s squad will attempt to remain there and to achieve greater success by picking up at least a point from this match, which will ensure that they can go into the last round of this stage with a chance of qualifying for the next round.

Italy vs. Switzerland match preview

The Netherlands are going to play Austria in their second Euro 2020 group stage fixture on 17th June. Both sides would be confident enough to go for a win as they had a successful start to the tournament.

Having made winning starts to their respective campaigns on Sunday, both teams can play without too much pressure.

Netherlands

Netherlands

, who have home advantage on their side at Amsterdam ArenA for all three of their group stage matches, secured a highly entertaining 3-2 victory over Ukraine on Sunday night.

Oranje were the better of the two teams in a goalless first half, with

Denzel Dumfries

guilty of missing Frank de Boer's side's best chance after a superb pass by the lively Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum, who recently completed his free transfer from Liverpool to Paris Saint-Germain, is granted greater freedom for his country than he was for his previous club in recent years, and he delivered the opening goal after Ukraine goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan spilled the ball to the midfielder on the edge of the area.

Wout Weghorst

doubled his international tally and Netherlands' lead in the match six minutes later, but Andriy Yarmolenko was allowed far too much time and space to bend a superb left-footed strike into the top corner from distance, before Roman Yaremchuk completed a dramatic turnaround with a close range header.

However, Dumfries made amends for his earlier miss by leaping highest at the back post to head into the ground and beyond Bushchan, who may have felt he should have kept it out having got a hand onto the ball.

Netherlands will need to ensure they defend better against a dangerous Austria side on Thursday, but there is clearly plenty of promise about this side, particularly with

Memphis Depay

yet to hit top form.

Austria

Austria enjoyed a fantastic win after beating North Macedonia 3-1 to record their first ever victory at a European Championship.

Borussia Monchengladbach full-back, Stefan Lainer, volleyed the Austrians into the lead after a superb sweeping pass by RB Leipzig's Marcel Sabitzer, with Das Team making the most of their side's dominant German Bundesliga make-up.

However,

Goran Pandev

ruined the party 10 minutes later by pouncing on a catalogue of Austrian errors - with none of Martin Hinteregger, Marcel Sabitzer,

Daniel Bachmann

or David Alaba covering themselves in glory when attempting to clear the ball - to pass the ball into an empty net for a simple equalizer.

Franco Foda introduced strikers

Michael Gregoritsch

and Marko Arnautovic moments before the hour mark, with the pair having dream impacts by both getting themselves on the scoresheet.

Gregoritsch met Alaba's superb cross from the left flank to tap home at the near post, before Konrad Laimer's clever flick allowed Arnautovic to race in behind and seal a crucial three points for his team.

Form analysis

Matthijs de Ligt

was forced to watch from the sidelines against Ukraine due to a groin problem, but has since returned to training and is in contention to start. If the match comes too soon, Jurrien Timber could retain his place or Manchester City's

Nathan Ake

may come in.

Weghorst should start again after Frank de Boer's decision to start the striker paid off, with main stars Wijnaldum, De Jong and Memphis Depay again are expected to feature in the starting lineup.

Netherlands possible starting lineup:

Stekelenburg; Timber, de Vrij, Blind; Dumfries, de Roon, de Jong, Wijnaldum, van Aanholt; Depay, Weghorst

Austria have no injury issues to worry about, but

Marko Arnautovic

may have done enough with his goal off the bench against North Macedonia to earn a starting role.

The former

West Ham

forward landed himself in hot water with a heated outburst after his strike and UEFA have appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to look into his reaction.

David Alaba was expected to play out wide on the left on Sunday. He ended up in the middle of a back three, but pretty much drifted to wherever he was needed, as showcased by his brilliant assist for Gregoritsch's goal.

Austria possible starting lineup: Bachmann; Dragovic, Alaba, Hinteregger; Lainer, Laimer, Schlager, Sabitzer, Ulmer; Arnautovic, Kalajdzic

Netherlands vs. Austria - Head-to-head in all competitions

The Netherlands and Austria have met each other 19 times previously, with the Oranje coming out on top on nine occasions. The last time they locked horns was in 2016, when

Vincent Janssen

and Wijnaldum scored in a 2-0 victory.

The last time Austria beat their group stage opponents was back in 1990. They have only met at an international tournament once before - the 1978 World Cup, when the Netherlands won 5-1.

From their last six meetings, the Netherlands have won every one.

Prediction

While many websites offer different predictions and betting tips, we state here that both sides were involved in thrilling encounters on Sunday, and we expect another entertaining and enjoyable match on Thursday.

There is little pressure on either side given that one more point from their final two matches will almost certainly take them through to the knockout stages, and we expect Netherlands' greater quality and home advantage to ultimately win the match.

Netherlands vs Austria Referees

UEFA has appointed Orel Grinfeeld (Israel) to oversee the match between Netherlands vs Austria on Thursday. Roy Hassan and Idan Yarkoni are his assistants and Davide Massa is the reserve referee. Pawel Gil is in charge of VAR.
