Mario Gotze, born on 3 June 1992, in Memmingen, is a German footballer and attacking midfielder. Mario Gotze Early Life

Mario Gotze started playing for small regional clubs in Germany, first joining the youth ranks of SC Ronsberg when he was just five years old. The following year he moved to Eintracht Hombruch.

His performances in the last year caught the attention of scouts from Borussia Dortmund, where he transferred and played eight seasons in the youth categories being the most prominent in the Dortmund's youth ranks.

In these eight seasons, he won a German regional championship being a U-17 and was German U-19 runner-up, his performances in the youth ranks earned him praise for his qualities and also several calls for the youth national teams of Germany.

Mario Gotze joined Borussia Dortmund in 2001. His Bundesliga debut came on 21 November 2009 in a 0:0 draw against 1. FSV Mainz 05, replacing Polish midfielder Jakub Blaszczykowski in the 81st minute of the match. During the winter break of the 2009-10 Bundesliga season, Dortmund manager Jürgen Klopp promoted him to the first team. At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, the 21-year-old Gotze used his €37 million release clause and moved to FC Bayern Munich. In the weeks and months following the announcement of the move, there was fierce criticism in the Dortmund fan base. In his final competitive match for Borussia Dortmund, Gotze was supposed to face his future employer. However, he was not called up to the squad for the 2013 Champions League final due to a torn muscle fibre in his right thigh. Gotze later expressed that new Bayern coach Pep Guardiola had been a reason for the switch, as he was keen to play under him.

Following his rehab for the torn muscle fibre he suffered, Gotze [layed his first competitive match for Bayern on 24 August 2013 (matchday 3) against 1. FC Nürnberg in the Bundesliga. In the UEFA Super Cup win six days later against

In the summer of 2016, he returned to Borussia Dortmund, the club where he had grown up. He made his first appearance since his return to the Borussia Dortmund jersey on matchday two, in the 1-0 loss against

. On 14 September 2016 he scored his first goal since his comeback in the yellow and black jersey in the first match of the Champions League group F won 0-6 at home against Legia Warsaw, while on 16 December he scored his first goal in the Bundesliga in the 2-2 draw at home against Hoffenheim.

In the second half of the season, he was always halted by injuries until he was forced to take a break to fully recover from all those injuries. On 15 March with a note on the official website, the club confirmed that he responded well to the treatment and that from the new 2017-2018 season he could be fully available for the team again.

After recovering from the injury, he returned to action on the first matchday of the 2017/18 season. Under new coach Peter Bosz, Gotze established himself as a regular at the team. On matchday 13, he suffered an ankle injury against FC Schalke 04. This injury kept him out for the rest of the first half of the season. It was not until after the winter break that he returned to the starting eleven on matchday 18 against VfL Wolfsburg.

Under Peter Stöger, the successor to Bosz who was dismissed on matchday 15, Gotze lost his undisputed position in the starting eleven: he was frequently substituted, came on late or did not even feature at all. In addition, Stöger publicly criticised him for his performances. At the end of the season, he made 23 appearances in the Bundesliga, where he scored two goals, as well as five Champions League and four Europa League matches without scoring.

Gotze was already initially considered a winner in the change of coach to Lucien Favre following the preparation for the 2018/19 season. However, following an appearance against SpVgg Greuther Fürth in the first round of the DFB Pokal, Favre opted against using the midfielder in the Bundesliga. Favre did not even appoint him for the following matches after he was in the squad without an appearance at the beginning of the season.

He just made an appearance against FC Brugge in the Champions League game on 18 September 2018. (1:0). And it wasn't until 6 October 2018, Matchday 7, when he made his first start of the season in the Bundesliga when he was replaced by Julian Weigl in the 77th minute of the 4-3 victory over FC Augsburg and scored for an interim 3-2 lead seven minutes later. Gotze was eventually part of the extended daily line-up again. Initially, in the first half of the season, he tended to play as a false nine up front, mostly using his speed to keep opposition defenders occupied, before being replaced by the less athletic striker Paco Alcácer.

In the second half of the season, Gotze eventually established himself as a main player in Favre's system, where he again played more regularly and also took over the captain's armband from the wounded Marco Reus. He had seven goals and assists in each of 26 Bundesliga matches by the end of the season, which Borussia Dortmund ended as runners-up.

The attacking midfielder won his fifth title with the club in August 2019, when the previous season's double winners FC Bayern were defeated 2-0 in the DFL Supercup. At the start of the 2019/20 season, Gotze once again lost the regular spot he had earned in the second half of the previous season. He was only used on average in every second competitive match, mostly as a substitute, as Paco Alcácer occupied the centre of attack in the first half of the season and, after his transfer, young Erling Haaland in the second half.

He was eliminated in the last 16 of both the Champions League and the DFB Cup with Dortmund. Before Matchday 27, sporting director Michael Zorc announced that Goetze's expiring contract had not been renewed and that the player would therefore leave the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. Gotze played his last match for BVB on 26 May 2020 (Matchday 28) in a 1-0 defeat to FC Bayern Munich. German National Team

In November 2010, Joachim Löw called Mario to the national team for a friendly against Sweden, in which Mario made his first appearance. He is the first German international football player who was born in reunited Germany. He scored two goals against Austria (6-2 win) and one goal against Brazil (3-1 win).

Against Sweden on 15 October 2013, he scored a goal and made two assists to André Schürrle (5-3 victory). Mario Gotze is a versatile and technical attacking midfielder. His preferred position is playmaker, but he is equally capable of playing on the left and right flanks and even as a false 9. Family, Children and Relationships

In 1992, in Memmingen, Swabia, Gotze was born, as the second of three sons. He originally lived in the Allgau town of Ronsberg along with his brothers Fabian and Felix, who are football players as well. At the age of three, after his father had received a full scholarship from the Humboldt Foundation for optical signal processing at Rice University, Gotze moved with his family to Houston, Texas, in the USA.

A year and a half later, due to Fabian's school registration, the family moved to Memmingen. In 1997, when Gotze's father had claimed the chair for computer technology at the Technological University of Dortmund, the family moved to Dortmund. From Grade 5 to 10, Mario Gotze visited the Helene Lange Gymnasium in Dortmund's Hombruch neighborhood.

In 2008, he moved to the Goethe-Gymnasium in the Hörde district, where, in 2010, he received qualification for admission to technical colleges (the scholastic portion after grade 12). He served a business internship at the BVB office from 2010 to 2011, in addition to his professional football career.

Gotze has been in a relationship with Ann-Kathrin Brömmel since 2012 and has been married to her since May 2018. In 2020, they became parents to a son named Rome.
