Canadian Soccer's Quest for World Cup Glory

From Solskjaer to Marsch: Navigating the Coaching Carousel Towards 2026

The Canadian Soccer Federation has reportedly reached out to Jesse Marsch and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to discuss the possibility of them taking over as head coach. Solskjaer has been without a job since his dismissal from

Manchester United

in 2021, while Marsch became available after parting ways with Leeds in February 2023.

Additionally, the federation is considering other candidates such as Paul Clement, Bobby Smyrniotis of Forge FC, and Aitor Karanka, the former manager of Middlesbrough. This decision comes as Canada prepares to co-host the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Mexico, following their qualification for the 2022 tournament, which marked their first appearance in 36 years. However, their former coach, John Herdman, departed shortly after their qualification to join MLS side Toronto FC.

Interestingly, Frank Lampard and Jose Mourinho declined interview offers for the position, prompting Canada to explore alternative options as they look to build a competitive team for the upcoming World Cup.

In the meantime, Canada is gearing up for the 2024 Copa America this summer, where they will face tough opponents like Argentina, Peru, and Chile in the group stage, including a showdown with Lionel Messi and the reigning world champions.
