Zamalek’s tragedy: Failure in the fourteenth meeting under Gomez’s leadership

Refereeing drama and attack chaos: The story of Zamalek’s fifth defeat of the season and Gomez’s challenges in the face of technical obstacles and injuries before facing Renaissance Berkane

Zamalek team paid the price for the adventure of its coach Jose Gomez when it suffered its fifth defeat in its journey in the Egyptian league this season, at the hands of Smouha team, which won with a goal against nothing in the match that took place on Sunday on the ground of Borg El Arab Stadium within the twenty-first round of the championship.

Smouha’s Nigerian player Abu Bakr Lyadi managed to score the only goal of the match in the fifty-third minute, in the absence of Smouha players when Hossam Hassan was expelled in the eighty-second minute.

Gomez decided to rest his key players, including Ahmed Syed Zizo, Ahmed Fotouh, Ahmed Hamdi, and Omar Gaber, due to his fears of injuries before facing Renaissance Berkane in the final of the Confederation Cup next Sunday.

Zamalek’s balance stopped at 24 points in the twelfth place with 6 postponed matches, while Smouha’s balance led by coach Ahmed Sami rose to 31 points in the sixth place, and he still has a postponed match against Pyramids.

The match witnessed a refereeing controversy after the expulsion of Hossam Hassan and the cancellation of a penalty kick for Zamalek after checking from the video technology, in addition to canceling a goal for Zamalek on the grounds of offside.

Smouha team started the match with intensive offensive pressure, while Zamalek players tried to respond with their passes, but to no avail. In the second half, Smouha succeeded in scoring the progress goal after a mutual pass between Hossam Hassan and Abu Bakr Lyadi. Despite Zamalek’s attempts to adjust, they failed, and the match ended with Smouha winning with a goal without a response.
