Zamalek issues a statement criticizing refereeing errors

An official statement confirms the commitment to equal opportunities and calls for support of regulatory bodies with a reference to the urgent need for reforms in the refereeing administration and affirming the commitment to transparency and neutrality in its decisions

On Monday, an official statement was issued by Zamalek club criticizing the poor refereeing that appeared in its matches within the Egyptian league. The club’s board of directors, chaired by Hussein Labib, confirmed in this statement their commitment to the principles and values that enhance the success of the league and ensure an equal environment for everyone and fair competition, affirming their support for the bodies that manage the competition, including the Egyptian Clubs Association, the Egyptian Federation, and all specialized committees, especially the Referees Committee.

The statement pointed out that the council had overlooked some refereeing errors as soon as they were alerted in the past, expressing their hope that the competent authorities would rectify these errors. However, the refereeing performance in the last three matches did not pass without major errors, which were confirmed and acknowledged by everyone, and could not be denied except by those who have a certain interest. It is no longer possible to ignore these errors or consider them normal.

The statement expressed their fears that the repetition of such events would lead them to feel that there is a deliberate intention to influence the results of the matches and the course of the team. The council affirmed its readiness to protect the rights of the club and its fans, and its strong refusal of such practices.

The statement called for taking all necessary measures by the Referees Committee, refereeing teams, video technology referees, and anyone else related, to affirm neutrality and stay away from personal bias, stressing the need to take strict measures transparently. The council announced that it will determine its next steps based on that.

The council appealed to the loyal fans of the club, who have always been with them, to continue supporting the team so that it can return to the platforms it deserves to be on.

Zamalek lost its match against Smouha with a score of 1-0 yesterday, Sunday, in the twenty-first round of the Egyptian league, amid great controversy over the refereeing decisions taken by referee Mahmoud Al-Banna.
