Fernando Santos returns to coaching role as Poland boss

Despite winning two major trophies with Portugal, a quarter-final loss against Morocco ended Santos's reign at Portugal as Roberto Martinez replaced him. Now the Portuguese coach will replace Czeslaw Michniewicz as Poland’s head coach.

Winning the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 edition of the Nations League,

Portugal

had high hopes with their manager Fernando Santos to deliver yet another major trophy to the nation that had only reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup three times.

However, a 1-0 loss to Morocco in Qatar 2022's quarter-finals, in addition to his fallout with their captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, officially ended Fernando Santos' coaching career at Portugal.

Now, Polish Football Association (PZPN) president, Cezary Kulesza, has essentially confirmed the arrival of the Portuguese as

Poland

's new head coach. His first task will be leading Poland to a fourth successive qualification for the 2024 European Championship which will be held in Germany. He will then be tasked to lead Poland to the 2026 World Cup, after which his contract is due to end.
