United are getting serious in their pursuit of £50m-priced Gakpo

Reports in UK are claiming that Manchester United have opened talks with PSV to sign their World Cup star, Cody Gakpo.

Manchester United have opened talks with PSV to sign their highly-rated winger

Cody Gakpo

in a deal that could be worth less than £50 million.

Having starred for the Flying Dutchmen in the World Cup, Gakpo managed to impress everyone by scoring 3 goals for the Oranje. His numbers at PSV are however more impressive, having scored 9 and assisted 12 times in Eredivisie as well as 3 goals and 2 assists in the Europa League this season so far.

Alongside Manchester United, there have been a slew of clubs interested in Gakpo but the Red Devils and Leeds United were more serious. Leeds even managed to nearly sign him in the summer but PSV pulled out of the £40m in the last minute.

Now the Mirror outlet claims that due to

PSV

’s financial troubles, they might be open to selling their prized star for a fee in the region of £50m, which would still be a club record.

The Dutch connection Gakpo might have with United boss ten Hag, could very well give United the upper hand when it comes to signing Gakpo, with clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid and Newcastle also highly interested in the player.
