Several of Uruguay squad set to be charged with misconduct by FIFA
Godin, Cavani and two other Uruguay players set to be charged by FIFA after reacting furiously to Uruguay’s World Cup exit
Uruguay beat Ghana 2-0 but in the end was knocked out of the World Cup on goal difference as South Korea managed to defeat Portugal 2-1 and qualify. This resulted in several of Uruguay players reacting badly to the exit - Cavani and Godin included – with them harassing the referee which has now landed them in hot waters with FIFA.
The incident was of course filmed and posted on the social media where it showed
Cavanitoppling over the VAR monitor and Uruguay players surrounding referee Daniel Siebert.
FIFA has since charged
Uruguayplayers and squad with misconduct, offensive behavior and discrimination while also stating that Cavani, Godin, Gimenez and Muslera are all being separately investigated for misconduct and violations of principles.
Luis Suarezwent a step further by telling the reporters that
"FIFA is always against Uruguay
".
Serbia was yet another team that didn’t escape FIFA’s ire after Serbian fans discriminatory chants in their loss against Switzerland led to FIFA charging Serbia with misconduct, discrimination and failure to preserve order and security.
