Javier Tebas warned Barcelona over financial consequences

Last season, Barcelona faced many economic problems and it seems that this issue will continue.

LaLiga President Javier Tebas warned Barcelona that they must get their house or they will face consequences.

During the summer, Barcelona sold some of their assets to spend 676 million euros to strengthen their squad for the new season. Although the amount needed to strengthen the squad was provided, Barcelona had to find a way to match the salary paid to the salary limit set by La Liga. Tebas once again warned the Blaugrana about their financial situation and claimed that there could be big consequences for them going forward.

He said:

“If they go out of the Champions League, they will have less income but they will not have to pay bonuses. That will not change much. But the levers have worked for them this season but not for the next one. They have to reduce salary mass, they cannot continue with more than 500 million euros. Because if not next season we will find the 1/4 rule for them again.”

Currently, Barcelona's salary limit is set at 656 million euros, so they have to cut 24% of their salary. It seems that it is not possible to reach such a figure without selling some high-paid players.
